Examples of questions that can be asked before and after training include:

Sample question for attitudes
: Volunteers working with a program that provides services to homeless persons are required to attend basic training. They are asked to respond to the following question before and after training:

People who are homeless are usually just unwilling to work for a living like the rest of us. Use a Likert scale to determine agreement.

Sample question for knowledge: Evaluators receive special training on how to assess outcomes for a grant-funded project to provide services to homeless persons. Following the training, they are asked:

Describe two ways of improving follow-up rates among persons who are homeless.

Sample question for skills: A client receiving counseling for substance abuse makes the statement, “What’s the use? I can’t change who I am. Once an addict, always an addict.”

Cite a possible response from the counselor that is consistent with the principles of Motivational Interviewing.
