Mentor
What is the origin of the word “mentor”?
The word "mentoring" is from the Greek word meaning "enduring." The original "Mentor" was a wise teacher who taught the son of Odysseus—a Greek king who fought in the Trojan War. Like the original "Mentor," anyone who serves another as a counselor, guide, tutor, or coach is a modern-day mentor (from the HHS Career Mentoring Program, 2005).
